Volunteer Required by Science Fair Foundation BC

Volunteer Wanted!!!

The Science Fair Foundation BC is looking for Corporate Team Challenge Committee Member to help us recruit team am promote the event!

The Corporate Team Challenge Committee is primarily focused on the recruitment and organization of corporate teams for the Run.  Corporate Team members make up the majority of the Run’s participants.

Duties

  • Maintains Corporate Team Challenge captain contacts database in Microsoft Excel and forwards to Registration after the event for consolidation.
  • Act as Primary contact for Team Captains (ie questions re: registration, etc.)
  • Recruits new teams to the Fun Run and works to expand existing team’s participation.
  • Works closely with Sponsorship Committee to ensure all sponsors are encouraged to enter teams.
  • Working with PR to create awareness among Industry Associations and other groups.
  • Collects logos from team captains for T-shirts
  • Works with Public Relations and Registration Committees to prepare Team Captain Kit of timelines and team entries, including e-mail to colleagues
  • Ensures Team Kits are sent to all team captains.
  • Follows up with team captains on team entries reminding them of various registration deadlines
  • Works with Registration Committee to ensure team captains receive their race packages (t-shirts, bibs etc.) in a timely manner.
  • Sends thank you letters to team captains.
  • Completes an event post mortem.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of, and contacts in, the local high-tech and life sciences industries.
  • Ability to make cold calls and promote the idea of participation in the Fun Run.
  • Understanding of the Science Fair Program – The Charity benefactor.

Commitment:

  • January 5th – June 5th, 2010
  • Attend 1 meeting every two weeks until March 31st
  • Attend 1 meeting every week until the date of the run in April and May

Volunteer Opportunity with the Mineral Exploration Roundup Conference

Conference Assistant Volunteer/Practicum Opportunity

Mineral Exploration Roundup is the world’s premier technical exploration conference and we are looking for a practicum/volunteer student to help as the conference assistant.  We are looking for a student that is available to volunteer 2-3 hours a day 4-5 days a week between December 9th and January 21st.  The tasks that the student will be performing are:

* Assisting with conference registration (online, phone, fax and in-person)
* Assisting with assembling of conference registration packages.
* Administrative duties for the trade show portion of the conference.
* Assisting with various mail-outs of conference brochures, invitations, etc.
* Creating the production binders for the events team.
* Assisting the Manager, Special Events and Director, Member Relations and Events as required.
* Other duties related to the conference as required.

The volunteer will work out of our office which is located at 800 – 889 W Pender St. located in Downtown Vancouver.  This is a great experience for students interested in the event industry!
