COMMUNITY SERVICES COORDINATOR 1
(2010 Olympic Event Volunteer Program Coordinator)
Project Position – to March 2010
This is an advanced level of professional work responsible for the overall operation and administration of the Surrey 2010 Volunteer Program. This position will work as part of the Volunteer Resources team in collaboration with internal staff and external community groups. A detailed volunteer cycle plan will need to be developed and implemented. This includes, but is not limited to an intense recruitment program, screening, orientation, training, scheduling, recognition and ongoing support. A thorough marketing campaign, evaluation and succession plan are also integral to the role. Working as part of a team, the successful candidate will be responsible for adhering to departmental guidelines and preparing related procedures and reports. Creativity, organization, the ability to work independently and strong public presentation skills are compulsory in the position.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of community development principles and practices. They must be able to produce high quality written promotional material, deliver effective oral presentations and prepare and maintain accurate records and reports. Strong interpersonal skills and leadership ability are crucial.
Graduation from a recognized University or College level program and 3 years of progressively responsible experience including supervision. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. You must have a valid BC Driver’s License, Emergency First Aid certificate with CPR, and be able to successfully pass a Criminal Record Check.

Kitsilano Neighbourhood House
Position: Community Resources Coordinator
KNH is seeking a self motivated, high energy, compassionate individual with experience working with a multi-barriered population to oversee the running of the Steeves Manor Resource Centre in a large BC Housing facility with 200 tenants.
The Community Resource Coordinator works as part of a team to engage BC Housing tenants and the community in activities and initiatives that support their needs. The Community Resource Coordinator will help to create a participatory lead environment.
Responsibilities:
- To work as part of a team to provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all tenants.
- Engage tenants in an annual planning process and implement a logic model, monitoring framework and evaluation tools that will support the needs of the tenants.
- Complete quarterly and annual reports that are both qualitative and quantitative.
- Set-up systems to help with the day to day smooth running of the program.
- Complete a daily staff log.
- Design and implement promotional materials.
- Oversee the Resource Centre and provide resource and referral information as required.
- Engage in Community Development and build partnerships with local community agencies.
- Work with tenants to plan special events including an annual health fair.
- Develop a volunteer program which includes job descriptions, tracking hours, building community capacity through volunteerism and provide volunteer training opportunities for tenants.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Post secondary education in a related field or equivalent training and experience.
- Experience and knowledge working in a multi-barred environment.
- Experience with program planning, development and delivery.
- Experience working with volunteers.
- Strong knowledge of community resources and services.
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
- Experience setting up reporting and tracking systems.
- Strong conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to set up healthy boundaries and work as a team.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Attitudes and values which are compatible with the goals and philosophy of Kitsilano Neighbourhood House.
- Willingness to engage in the development and implementation of special events and celebrations hosted by the Neighbourhood House.
- Class 4 or ability and willingness to attain one.
Job Details:
Salary: $17.35 - $18.83 per hour
Schedule: 17.5 hours per week, with some evening and weekend work
Location: 3rd and Wallace St. Vancouver
Expected Start Date: June 8th, 2009

PMC – Sierra Science Fair Fun Run

The Science Fair Foundation BC is looking for energetic, customer service oriented volunteers for the PMC – Sierra Science Fair Fun Run!

Time: 9:00 am
Location: TELUS World of Science
We need volunteers for:
- Water Stations
- Registration
- Set up/ Tear down (please be prepared to do some heavy lifting of equipment)
- Timing Chip Distribution
- Timing Chip Collection
- Route Marshals
- Gear Check & Lost and Found
What we can do for you:
- Provide all volunteers with T-shirts to wear on the day of the run
- Host a volunteer orientation to familiarize team members with their roles
- Provide volunteers with refreshments on event day
- Free admission to TELUS World of Science on event day
Volunteer Orientation: Wednesday, May 27th, 2009, at 7:00pm, at TELUS World of Science. Volunteers attending the orientation will receive a free ticket to the OmniMax (to be used at their leisure).
All volunteers will also receive a volunteer handbook at the orientation and a thank you letter at the end of the event, highlighting the volunteer hours worked, as well as the importance of their role in making the 2009 PMC-Sierra Science Fair 5K Fun Run a success!
*Note: Attendance at the orientation will count towards your volunteer hours. If your commute to TELUS World of Science is ½ an hour or more, you may also submit your commute time for volunteer hours.

20th Anniversary Pacific Spirit Run
The Pacific Spirit Run celebrates its 20th Anniversary this year at 9am on Saturday, May 9, 2009. All funds from this 2.5 km walk, 5 km. walk/run and 10 km. run go to dementia research at the Tapestry Foundation for Health Care. The event takes place at Thunderbird Stadium and Pacific Spirit Park. www.tapestryfoundation.ca
We are looking for event volunteers in the following categories:

You would be expected to be onsite at the event from approximately 7am until 12pm. More specific details and confirmation to come once you sign up!

Tri-Cities Wheel to Heal Ride 2009
3 energetic and friendly volunteers are needed to help promote a new hospital charity bike ride scheduled for later this year benefiting the Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation.
Promotion would include handing out brochures and talking to interested people from 11am-2pm (3 hours total) on Saturday, May 2nd at Cap's Westwood Cycle in Coquitlam, BC.
